Ducks bottom

The other day we were at Costco. Boy, that place is a madhouse! I was brave enough (or dumb enough either works) to take 3 of the 4 with me. I did my shopping, my sampling, my impulse buying, and even found organic eggs at a great price. Since Alex was in the cart I was smart enough to protect these precious eggs by placing them under the cart. Well, the person at checkout was not as smart and placed those brown $5 eggs right next to my 3 year old. A challenge. I can handle that. The way to the exit sounded like "Alex don't touch those eggs", "Alex take your hand off the eggs", "Alex, STOP touching the eggs!" Then we saw Linda (or Nana as she is fondly called by our children) and I got distracted. Then I reached the car and when I go to grab my eggs, I was shocked at the sight before my eyes. Not only was Alex touching those eggs...are you ready for this? He was SITTING on them! I gasped I said "Alex WHY are you SITTING on the eggs?!?!" This gave great comedy to passerbys as I am horrified and am checking through the eggs. What happened next just really surprised me. Alex answered my rhetorical question. His little eyes got all big, cute, and serious and he says so innocently, "but, mommy, ducks sit on their eggs." Not only did this make the onlookers roar in laughter, it made me smile. That boy is too smart for his own good. And super cute. He was just nurturing those poor eggs. I bet since they were brown he was worried about them and thought maybe he should take care of them. Whatever the motive was, he was right. Ducks DO sit on their eggs. And he must have a soft ducks bottom because he did not break one of those 2 dozen eggs!
